Recently, students went back to school. They started new routines and busted “summer” habits. Or so we thought they did! The transition from vacation to school is tough, but nothing is harder then getting those sleep habits into shape!

On the Fridays we are not on field trips, our team decided to start Healthy Friday Rotations. Students rotate through the teachers on our team and examine important health issues.

My first rotation focused on kids and sleep. We listened to some lullabies on groveshark.com. Then we read the article “What Sleep is and why all kids need it!”  Students reflected by drawing or writing about what they learned. Students really related to the issue. They were able to talk about what things kept them up and sleep issues they were having. They know that sleep is important. To continue the discussion we will be using a sleep diary throughout the week in our home rooms.
